Problems with cental heating - Plumbers Clapham solve your problem

“When I turn our central heating on - 30 minutes later I can hear a loud rumbling noise from the header tank in the loft and when I got up there it was just air bubbles making it and the water rose a couple of inches; then suddenly stopped. 3 minutes later I can hear even louder noises that sounds like thunder started happening so I looked up there again and boiling water just stated flying out of a pipe into the header tank and then started shooting down the overflow pipe. I had our thermostat changed on the boiler because that was what another plumber said it sounded like but that has not cured it. It is not the central heating its just when I turn the hot water on in the morning but the system I have is that you need the hot water on for the central heating to be on. I think the hot water is always going through the pump unlike a lot of systems where the pump is only used for the central heating.”

Plumbers Clapham advice:

What probably has happened is that the plumber may have installed the wrong thermostat, they have different limits and if it is wrong it will not knock off, he may not have installed it with heat-sync paste which transfers the heat better, or he may not have pushed the phial all the way in, finally, he may not have fitted the wires correctly. Once above is checked , please check that the radiators downstairs get hot, if not, the pump has gone, check that the pump if working; is not set too high. Plumber may have altered it!. If all that is proved you have a blockage in the pipework, the hot water is sometimes gravity fed and not pumped, turn water only on, (after checking the pump works on heating mode). If the pump doesn’t start in water only mode, it might be gravity fed, and the pipe has a blockage. Then the system needs flushing, be sure that it is not a primatic system before adding chemicals Primatic system will only have one cold water tank. If you have a small water storage (cold) and a large one, the small one is for the heating, drain some system water off until tank is just passed empty, add fernox or sentinel sludge remover, then leave it for a week then completely drain heating, re-fill, run an hour and drain again, re-fill with addition of sentinel inhibitor. good luck wit it!
